Action Against Hunger USA's Technical Department supports country teams to implement quality, evidence-based interventions through strategic support to programming, ongoing research, and monitoring & evaluation (M&E). One of the priority initiatives for M&E in 2017 is to expand the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) across its countries of operation. To support this objective, the Technical Department is recruiting an intern to carry out a variety of GIS tasks designed to strengthen program design, spatial information use, and learning.
Key activities
  • Review current GIS activities across Action Against Hunger country programs;
  • Help identify barriers for information collection, collation, analysis and sharing and develop appropriate supportive strategies.
  • Support development of basic guidelines and standards for mapping and spatial data collection and management;
  • Recommend basic methods of spatial analysis and data use for multi-sector programming and logistics;
  • Support development of priority database(s) of spatial information, coordinating with Action Against Hunger network and country-level counterparts as needed to support and ensure accuracy of GIS maps;
  • Support country programs to analyze their GIS data upon request;
  • Support content development for trainings on GIS/QGIS.
Do you meet the profile required criteria ?
  • Bachelor's (master's degree preferred) in any of the following areas: Geographic Information Systems, Geography, public health, development studies, humanitarian studies, or a related field;
  • Experience with GIS, including spatial data collection and mapping;
  • Experience with platforms such QGIS, ArcGIS, and/or Google Earth Pro;
  • Experience with interactive and web-based platforms such as OpenStreetMap or CARTO preferred;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Self-driven and proven ability to plan and deliver work to agreed deadlines;
  • Experience in developing countries highly desirable;
  • Knowledge of French preferred.

This is an unpaid internship with a transit reimbursement and daily $ 10 lunch reimbursement.
