Background Information - PSC
Peace and Security Centre
The UNOPS Peace and Security Centre (PSC) is a principal service provider in the field of mine action with the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), UNDP, UNICEF, Governments of mine-affected countries and other mine action partners. The Centre is responsible to administer, provide support and oversight of the day-to-day management of the Project Field offices, both according to the client requirements and in line with UNOPS rules and regulations.
It is headed by the Centre Director who has the overall authority and accountability for the performance of the Peace and Security Centre on behalf of its clients.
Functional Responsibilities
Under the limited guidance and supervision of Procurement Team Leader, Peace and Security Centre, the Procurement and Supply Chain Intern shall provide administrative and logistics support to improve of the Procurement Team Peace and Security Centre.
The Procurement and Supply Chain Intern reports to the Procurement Team leader, works in close collaboration with other team member and personnel of Peace and Security Centre, and responsible for all assigned tasks as follows
  • Provide support to procurement processes.
  • Deliver clerical and technical support for processing invoices of firms contracted by the office to supply goods or services.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and monitoring of administrative expenditures.
  • Assist Procurement Analysts/Specialists, vendors and UNOPS Headquarters to solve problems related to payments.
  • Prepare correspondences related to procurement matters.
  • Maintenance of working files on procurement activity.
  • Support in the preparation of correspondence, reports, charts, graphs, tables, etc., using standard software packages.
  • Perform qualitative analysis and/or quantitative analyses of data, using computer software as applicable.
  • Assist with various other administrative assignments as they arise, such as network folder management etc.
  • Assist with special projects on an as needed basis.
Education/Experience/Language requirements
  • Applicants should be enrolled in a university degree program such as Bachelor, Masters or Ph.D (or equivalent), or have graduated from such studies within three years prior to the application date of the internship.
  • Area of study should be preferably one of the following: supply-chain management, engineering and logistics, or relevant fields.
  • Fluency in oral and written English required. Knowledge of another UN official language an asset.
  • Knowledge of IT network system is an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a flexible, fast paced, mission driven environment.
  • Keen attention to detail and able to work with accuracy under pressure and with minimum supervision.
  • Strong planning and organization skills, have a pro-active work style and excellent follow-up skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with supervisor and co-workers of all levels.
