This position is located in the United Nations Operations and Crisis Centre (UNOCC) and Department of Peacekeeping Operations/Office of the Under-Secretary-General/Peacekeeping Situation Centre (SitCen). The incumbent reports directly to UNOCC/SitCen's Director/Chief, through the Head of the Information Management Unit.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Head of the Information Management Unit, UNOCC/SitCen, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Assist with the maintenance of UNOCC's software applications.
  • Ensure 24/7 operational readiness and provide technical support, as needed, for UNOCC's ICT and audiovisual equipment in the UNOCC and the relocation site.
  • Prepare user documentation and training materials for UNOCC's ICT systems.
  • Provide training to staff on UNOCC's ICT systems.
  • Maintain regular contact with UNOCC staff and technical staff and provide support as required.
  • Serve as focal point for supporting and monitoring ICT resources; follow up on necessary administrative issues and liaise with service providers to initiate and follow-up on requests for support.
  • Maintain databases, shared file storage and web content.
  • Manage office ICT hardware inventory, including updating of inventory database and liaising with DFS/ICTD and DM/OICT.
  • Design and generate presentation-ready reports using a variety of software tools such as database query languages, spreadsheets and report writers.
  • Draft correspondence and communications, including work plan revisions and other related issues, as well as prepare unit contributions for a variety of periodic reports.
  • Provide user training as needed in the operation of specialized equipment including cryptophones, satellite phones and other communications equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical certificate in application software systems development and/or university level courses in computer sciences or related field are desirable
Work Experience
- A minimum of seven years of experience in information management or related area.
  • Several years of technical experience, e.g. systems support, administration and maintenance, content management, technical writing, user training, etc. required.
  • Experience with DPKO's and DFS's information management, information technology and related information systems, policies, procedures and practices are desirable.
  • Experience with the preparation of digital maps is desirable.
  • Knowledge of web development is an asset.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
