EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Mbeya University of Science and Technology invites applications from suitably and competent persons to fill vacancies that exist at the University. Mbeya University Staff are highly encouraged to apply.
A successful candidate shall work on contract for a period and terms indicated in the respective post.
1. PRINCIPALS (4 Posts)
a) College of Engineering and Technology (1 post)
b) College of Science and Education (1 post)
c) Institute of Science and Technology (1 post)
d) Rukwa Campus (1 post)
Qualification
Holder of a Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Engineering, Science/ Technology/Science with Education, who is at least a Senior Lecturer.
Working Experience
Should have teaching experience of not less than nine (9) years of which four (4) years should be in a senior administrative position in a related higher learning Institution.
Key Responsibilities
(i) Responsible to the Deputy Vice Chancellor responsible for Academic, Research and Consultancy matters, and to the Deputy Vice Chancellor responsible for Planning Finance and Administration for matters related to the College/Institute.
(ii) The academic and administrative head of the College/Institute and ex-officio Chairperson of the College/Institute/Academic Board.
(iii) Serve as liaison between the University and the College/Institute in handling of matters of interest to the University.
(iv) Oversee the consultancy activities within the College/Institute.
(v) Coordinate the execution of programs, policies and decisions which the University approve or adopts
(vi) Table to the University, College/Institute, matters which require considerations and approval.
(vii) Prepare and present the College/Institute budget to the University.
(viii) Affirm to the University the adequacy of staff coordination and contribution in matters presented for consideration
(ix) Interpret the University instructions to the College/Institute
(x) Originate and/or approves administrative controls to ensure integrated execution of College/Institute programs
(xi) Report to the University on the overall efficiency, effectiveness and economy of College/Institute operations
(xii) Facilitate learning (by teaching) of academic programmes in the College/Institute
(xiii) Assign duties and delegate to the College/Institute staff in their execution of programs and policies which the University adopts subject to such controls as it may establish
(xiv) Review and approve major College/Institute management methods, organization changes and recommends to the University.
(xv) Supervise and maintain acceptable standard discipline of staff in the College/Institute
(xvi) Ensure that appropriate matters are presented or communicated to the University at the proper time.
(xvii) Develop formal definition and communication of College/Institute programs, policies, procedures.
(xviii Supervise work performance of the staff in the College/Institute
(xix) Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the University.
Tenure of Office
The Principal shall hold the office for a term of three (3) years and may be reappointed consecutively for one more term of three (3) years upon satisfactory service.
Salary Scale: As attached to his/her duty post

2. DEAN – School of Business Studies (1 Post)

Qualification
Holder of a Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Engineering/ Technology/Science/Education with Science/ Management who is Senior Lecturer.
Experience
Should have teaching experience of not less than nine (9) years of which four (4) years should be in a senior position in a related higher learning Institution
Key Responsibilities
(i) Responsible to the Deputy Vice Chancellor responsible for Academic, Research and Consultancy matters, and to the Deputy Vice Chancellor responsible for Planning Finance and Administration matters related to the School.

3. DIRECTORS (4 Posts)
(a) Director of Undergraduate Studies (1 post)
Qualification
Holder of a Doctorate Degree (PhD) who is at least a Senior Lecturer in Engineering, Science/ Technology/Science with Education.
Working Experience
Should have teaching experience of not less than nine (9) years of which four (4) years should be in a Senior Administrative position in a related higher learning Institution.
Key Responsibilities:
(i) Responsible to the Deputy Vice Chancellor-ARC in respect of such matters of undergraduate education programmes delivery and administration.
(ii) The advisor of, and assistant to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor –ARC in respect of such matters of the University Undergraduate programmes as shall be assigned to him/her
(iii) Facilitate learning (by teaching) of academic programmes in the University
(iv) Responsible for smooth running and development of undergraduate academic programmes in the University
(v) Advise on all matters pertaining to undergraduate academics and management
(vi) Oversee admission and examination regulations and implementation of the same for continuing education and proffessional development programmes.
(vii) Evaluate current progress of Undergraduate academic programmes in the University and recommend future programmes
(viii) Supervise work performance of staff in the Directorate
(ix) Recommend appropriate budgets for Undergraduate academic affairs
(x) Perform any duty as may be assigned by Supervisor.
Tenure of Office
A Director of Undergraduate Studies shall hold the office for a term of three (3) years and may be reappointed consecutively for one more term of three (3) years upon satisfactory service.

(b) Director of Distance and Continuing Education (1 Post)
Qualification
Holder of a Doctorate Degree (PhD) who is at least a Senior Lecturer in Engineering /Science /Technology/Science with Education.
Working Experience
Should have teaching experience of not less than nine (9) years of which four (4) years should be in a Senior Administrative position in a related higher learning Institution.
Key Responsibilities:
(i) Responsible to the Deputy Vice Chancellor-ARC in the matters related to delivery and administration of Continuing Education and Professional Development
(ii) The advisor of, and assistant to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor – ARC in respect of such matters of Continuing Education and Professional Development as may be prescribed
(iii) Facilitate learning (by teaching) of academic programmes in the University
(iv) Responsible for smooth running and development of Continuing Education and Professional Development in the University
(v) Advise on all matters pertaining to management, quality control and assurance of Continuing Education and Professional Development
(vi) Evaluate current progress of Continuing Education and Professional Development programmes in the University and recommend future programmes
(vii) Recommend appropriate budgets for Continuing Education and Professional Development affairs
(viii) Establish and Coordinate the development of Continuing Education and Professional Development programmes and management of resources
(ix) Oversee admission and examination regulations and implementation of the same for Continuing Education and Professional development programmes
(x) Supervise work performance of staff in the Directorate
(xi) Perform any other duties as may be assigned by supervisor

Key Responsibilities:
(i) Responsible to the Deputy Vice Chancellor-ARC in respect of such matters of Postgraduate studies, research and publications
(ii) The advisor of and assistant to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor –ARC in respect of such matters of the University Postgraduate studies, research and publications as may be prescribed.
(iii) Facilitate learning (by teaching) of academic programmes in the University
(iv) Responsible for smooth running and development of Postgraduate studies, research and publications in the University
(v) Advise on all matters pertaining to Postgraduate studies, research, publications and management
(vi) Evaluate current progress of Postgraduate studies, research and publications in the University and recommend future programmes
(vii) Recommend appropriate budgets for Postgraduate studies, research and publications affairs
(viii) Establish and Coordinate the development of Postgraduate studies, research, publications and management of resources
(ix) Oversee Research and Publication activities at the University
(x) Oversee admission and examination regulations and implementation of the same for postgraduate programmes
(xi) Supervise work performance of staff in the Directorate
(xii) Perform any other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
Tenure of Office
A Director of Postgraduate Studies shall hold the office for a term of three (3) years and may be reappointed consecutively for one more term of three (3) years upon satisfactory service.

(d) Director –Centre for Quality Assurance and Control
Qualifications
Holder of a Doctorate Degree (PhD) who is at least a Senior Lecturer in Engineering /Science/Technology/Science with Education.
Working Experience
Should have teaching experience of not less than nine (9) years of which four (4) years should be in a senior Administrative position in a related higher learning Institution
Key Responsibilities:
(i) Responsible to the Vice Chancellor in respect of such matters of Quality Control and Assurance
(ii) The advisor of and assistant to the Vice-Chancellor in respect of such matters of the University Quality Control and Assurance as may be prescribed
(iii) Facilitate learning (by teaching) of academic programmes in the University

(iv) Responsible for smooth running and development of Quality Control and Assurance programmes in the University
(v) Advise on all matters pertaining to quality control and assurance
(vi) Evaluate current progress of Quality Control and Assurance in the University and recommend future measures
(vii) Recommend appropriate budgets for Quality Control and Assurance
(viii) Establish and Coordinate the development of Quality Control and Assurance policy and procedure.
(ix) Oversee the implementation of Quality assurance and and Quality control policy and procedures of the University
(x) Supervise work performance of staff in the Directorate
(xi) Perform any other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
Tenure of Office
A Director of Quality Assurance shall hold the office for a term of three (3) years and may be reappointed consecutively for one more term of three (3) years upon satisfactory service.
Salary Scale: As attached to his/her duty post.
