Investments Group
Established in 1959, The Inter-American Development Bank is the largest and leading source of financing for regional development for Latin America and the Caribbean. The Finance Department's (FIN) main function is to administer the Bank's financial resources including debt and non-debt funds, managing the Bank's cash resources, conducting accounting and preparing financial records of Bank operations. Among other functions, FIN also administers Bank relations with financial markets and intermediaries, formulates and reviews the implementation of the Bank's asset/liability management.
The Finance Department is looking for a dedicated, energetic and team-oriented individual for the position of Treasury & Risk - Investments Specialist to work in the Investments Group of the Treasury Division.
Key Responsabilities
The incumbent will be part of a high-performing team in the Finance Department. The main characteristics are as follows: Main Activities
- Responsible for conducting research and analysis of investment counterparties and new investment alternatives, as well as building and maintaining financial models for the day-to-day analysis and management of the Bank's investment portfolios. Largely responsible for maintaining current and accurate trade information in the Bank's investment financial systems. Incumbent will also be responsible for negotiating the investment of the Bank's liquid holdings of dollars and other currencies as assigned with commercial banks and securities dealers in national and international markets.
- Receives and is responsible for analyzing information concerning the corresponding capital markets with special emphasis on high grade credit markets in close coordination with more senior investment staff. Keeps the Investments Group updated on events which affect the Bank's portfolios and future investments.
- As an important member of ongoing due diligence efforts, develops well-structured written and oral reports for internal purposes and as a basis for recommendations to senior officers and in some instances to the Asset-Liability Management Committee. In cooperation with other Treasury and Risk groups, is responsible for the analysis and periodic review of counterparties as well as the development of new investment initiatives.
- Assists in the development, management, and follow-up of investment-related activities, including initial and ongoing contact with counterparties, review of the Bank's compliance with relevant guidelines, and the proper recording of transactions.

Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience with at least three (3) years multi-currency, Investment, Banking, Capital Markets, Fixed Income Securities and Derivatives treasury operations experience. Experience with international markets, foreign exchange market, and capital markets software preferred.
Language: Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, Portuguese, and/or French) is required.
Functional and technical expertise: Understands the application of financial instruments in the management of the IDB's financial resources. Advanced understanding of cause and effect of market conditions and how they relate to the IDB's assets and liabilities. Makes sound recommendations based on thorough understanding of financial market dynamics. Monitors the market and looks for opportunities to effectively improve the IDB's financial position and/or minimize risk. Conducts independent analysis of data and information to validate the appropriateness of models being applied and to confirm the reasonableness of data generated.
Systems: Proficiency with Bloomberg, investment management systems such as Summit, and the Microsoft Office suite is highly desirable. Incumbent will be responsible for developing and maintaining models using both Access databases and Excel spreadsheets.

Business Acumen. Demonstrates an understanding of own functional area, the business of the Department and the IDB's needs and priorities. Understands and applies knowledge of IDB strategies, business priorities and policies to accomplish goals and execute on business area work program.
