The Administrative Law Section internship is offering intern positions for a two-month period during Spring and Summer 2017 (subject to the candidate's availability and school schedule) with an opportunity of extension up to six months. Please indicate in your cover letter the period for which you will be interested. The internship is UNPAID and full time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member.

Applications are sought for internship positions within the Administrative Law Section in the Office of Human Resources Management. The Administrative Law Section is seeking highly
motivated graduate students who wish to gain professional experience in administrative law within an international organization in order to supplement their studies. This internship
programme offers a practical educational experience and provides interns the opportunity to work in a multicultural, intergovernmental organization. The Administrative Law Section is
located in the Human Resources Policy Service, Office of Human Resources Management in the Department of Management. The Section is responsible for the preparation of advice on

Responsibilities
Interns undertake tasks under the supervision of a legal officer of the Disciplinary Unit and/or the Appeals Unit of the Administrative Law Section. Interns assist in the preparation of
advice on disciplinary matters and conduct legal research and analysis, and assist counsel in the preparation of written and oral submissions, in connection with the representation of the
Organization in proceedings before the United Nations Dispute Tribunal. They assist in maintaining the Unit's databases and perform other duties as required.
Competencies
Applicants must demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter of the United Nations. Applicants must have strong analytical skills and ability to conduct legal research on a range of relatively complex and intricate issues. In addition, the following competencies must be demonstrated: Communications: Applicants must have the ability to write in a clear and concise manner, including ability to draft/prepare presentations, legal submissions and reports. Need to speak and write clearly and effectively. Must listen to others, correctly interpret messages from others and respond appropriately and is expected to ask questions to clarify, and exhibit interest in having two-way communication.
Applicants must: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation. Be computer literate in standard software applications; have demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in oral and written English is required, and knowledge of French is desirable.
