Experience:
Minimum three (3) to five (5) years’ postgraduate work experience, not including internships with exposure to mining Safety and / or Risk Management System design and support in on underground mining environment,
Underground production experiences in a mechanized hard-rock underground mine.
Supervision of Safety functions within a mining operation.
Mining technology and heavy production equipment.

Purpose of the Role:
To provide a technical support function for the management of Safety and Occupational Health conditions within the underground working environment at Geita Gold Mine.

Main or Key Accountabilities:
Promote high safety awareness and Geita Gold Mine’s Safety and Health Policy within the underground mining environment.
Oversee the appointed mining contractor from a Safety & Occupational Health perspective.
Develop, review, implement and maintain relevant Safe Work Procedures, Standards and / or
Specifications to ensure work is carried out in a Safe and efficient manner.
Develop and maintain processes aimed at establishing a safe workpiece e.g. leading safety toolbox talks, planned task observations, reviewing job safety analysis documentation and risk assessments, conducting work inspections facilitation of incident investigation processes.
Implement Safety improvement plans focused on routine activities to ensure the establishment of a safe and healthy working environment, and the management and monitoring of short-term safety improvement within the underground mining environment.
Implement and drive change to processes, procedures and systems based on Incident investigations findings and recommendations, risk assessments and Regional/ Corporate, Regulatory, or other industry body requirements and / or directives.
Ensure all incidents are reported and investigated according to policy and statutory requirements.
Develop and establish training programs for all employees, contractors and visitors to ensure compliance and the safe, efficient achievement of business objectives.
Develop, implement and maintain emergency response procedures and practices related to the underground operation.
Additional Requirements:
Computer Skills.
Exposure and training in Safety & Risk Management Systems.
Exposure and application of electronic data management systems.
The ability to utilize equipment, office software -MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, mailings.

Qualifications
BSc Mining / Engineering Degree or equivalent.
Experience:
Eight (8) to ten (10) years’ operational underground mining engineering experience of which three(3) to five (5) years should be middle management or above (superintendent level).
Experience should include all aspects of underground mine operations.
Experience in Mine Planning is desired but not essential to the role e.g. design, scheduling, drilling and blasting, ventilation, dewatering/pumping, power systems.
Proven record of managing a Mining Contractor.
Purpose of the Role: To ensure that the Underground Operations consistently produce the required raw materials on time at the correct quantity and quality in a cost effective and safe way and in line with Mine’s strategy through Contractor Mining.
Main or Key Accountabilities:
Ensure Safety Targets of the Operation are met including workplace inspections, hazard reduction and risk assessments

Prepare detailed design and execution planning for mining, including stakeholder review and endorsement of developed plans.·
Oversight and management of the day-to-day operations of the appointed Contractor. .
Maintain Reserve and Resource mining shapes as well as leading Reserve and Resource reporting activities in compliance.
Ensure the ventilation model for underground exists.
Work with Mine Operations and Maintenance Teams to optimally locate utilities to meet long-range plan requirements, including maintenance of utility records (i.e. location maps).
Mine plan reconciliation reporting for production schedules this role is responsible for developing
Develop production statistics and operational metrics to enhance mine plan accuracy.
Based on long-range mine plans, help guide exploration activities to de-risk future mining activities.
Develop and lead special underground projects. .
Responsible for the underground evacuation and emergency response plan.
