UNDERGROUND MINING SECTION LEADER
Acacia Mining seeks to employ an Underground Mining Section Leader based at North Mara Mine in Tanzania. This role reports to the Mining Manager and the role holder will be accountable to review and optimize current mining systems/infrastructure, and provide practical project development/leadership for the delivery of generated projects. The incumbent will establish robust efficient production systems and assist the Technical Services department in establishing the timely required technical outputs to support production planning, as well as manage and drive mining contractor deliveries.
This is a fixed term contract role, with the work roster being six weeks on and three weeks off.
CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Enhance and drive safety systems to ensure the developed culture can safely and productively meet mine production targets.
• Assist in the development of the yearly budget and 3 month rolling forecasts for the underground mine.
• Execution of the 3 month underground mining plan that is aligned with the established yearly budget.
• Management of the technical inputs required to plan, execute and monitor all functions pertaining to the underground mine.
• Collaboratively work with other disciplines to ensure that the site wide targets are achieved.
• Management of major underground mining/auxiliary contractors to ensure contract compliance and productivity requirements are achieved.
• Review and recommend contract changes to ensure their suitability for changing circumstances.
• Establish and report appropriate production KPI’s that monitor and stretch performance.
• Develop and implement mining systems that deliver recognized benchmark productivity outputs.
• Review and develop projects that optimize existing capital infrastructure/equipment to deliver LOM solutions.
• Implement the standards for the Underground Mining Department and be accountable for the standards being met for all outputs.
• Provide direction for a holistic infrastructure optimization project, including the following:
Infrastructure and services review, optimization and change planning (pumping/electrical etc.)
Mining Contract review
Mining Security review
Mining Safety Review
Production and development systems optimisation
Ore and waste handling systems review
Equipment selection review and optimisation
CAF systems setup and review
Long term mine setup functionality (people and systems)
• Generate and complete CPORT scopes for sign off on projects assigned.
• Be involved in project budget preparation activities within the Underground Operational Team and be accountable for the timely delivery of the outputs.
• Coordinate detailed Execution Plans for all projects and be accountable for the efficient and effective application of the plans to ensure the timely completion of project works.
• Be accountable for management of project costs, including engagement of contractors, management of contracts and contractors, accruals and clearance of claims and invoices for payment.
• Prepare regular production / project reports regarding.
• Ensure that project milestones are achieved on time and to scope (qualitative & quantitative).
• Ensure that objectives are met by team members, conduct team member reviews and ensure the existence of development plans for team members.
• Develop a team that has appropriate knowledge and skill to operate autonomously and have a clear succession plan.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Qualification Requirements:
• Recognised Underground Supervisors Certification.
Experience Requirements:
• At least 10 years underground operational experience in a mechanized trackless environment.
• 5 years site supervisory experience.
• Exposure to Green/Brown field mining infrastructure establishment or optimization.
• Exposure to establishing and managing major mining contracts.
• Previous experience coordinating production engineering functions of an underground mine.
• Long-Hole Open Stoping (LHOS) mining method targeting productivity, costs and fragmentation.
• Cement Aggregate Fill (CAF) targeting QAQC, alternative binders, placement rates and cost.
• Mechanised trackless multi heading jumbo development.
• Material movement including the use tele remote technologies.
• Demonstrated the ability to operate and excel in a variety of cultural environments.

The incumbent will develop and drive production engineering controls that deliver robust, repeatable and reportable outputs and will participate and review all planning (long/medium) to ensure it is fit for purpose. In addition, the incumbent will contribute to the optimisation project of Capital infrastructure to deliver long term sustainable production and assist with managing commercial aspects of mining contracts.
