JOB PURPOSE
The role holder will have overall strategic accountability of the Agribusiness department through:
Defining the depth and scope of the Agribusiness opportunities available in the Tanzanian market and make appropriate recommendations, including measurable action plans for execution to the Management Team.
Developing internal and external tools that determine the size and profitability of the
Agribusiness department including an in-depth banking sector competitor analysis, complimented by a robust Food and Agribusiness research team.
Creating an internal analysis capability that recommends for utilization of the bank’s extensive Retail branch network enabling appropriate lending guidelines and providing proactive head office/ central business support.
Accountable for developing the required staff capabilities and personal career paths, including developing the required key performance indicators, (KPI”s) and managing for performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE ROLE
Design and implement Agribusiness commercial lending propositions to utilize the strength of value chain relationships in order to increase the flow of financing to relevant stakeholders within the value chain.
Keep abreast of Government of Tanzania (GoT) policies, strategies and initiatives in Agriculture and ensure sustainable growth opportunities and solutions are aligned with the same for the bank.
Research leading local and international Agricultural trends and practices in the country and proactively provide marketing leading solutions for customers within the portfolio.
Provide technical, and financial expertise to internal key stakeholders such as Credit Committees(CREDCO) and Product Approval Committees(PAC)
Recommend appropriate Agricultural concentration in the overall bank portfolio, also in accordance with the bank’s stated risk appetite.
Responsible for increasing flow of financial payment solutions and among relevant value chain stake holders such as out growers, processors, millers and traders.
Responsible for ensuring value adding representation in the NMB Foundation Board of
Directors, including recommending appropriate value chain financing arrangements for small holderfarmers and ensure they are provided with improved access to finance and tailored training to increase capacity.
Network with central and well as local government stakeholders and with NGO’s and relevant Agribusiness donor agencies ..
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Extensive knowledge of Agribusiness Value Chain Financing, sound credit knowledge, particularly for banking products and services.
Good collaborative skills across other business, commercial areas to ensure seamless value chain delivery of Agribusiness banking solutions to customers.
In-depth understanding Agribusiness financial services and products industry in a developing or emerging market.
A powerful advocate and influencer at the most senior levels, including Government organizations
and other local and external Agribusiness entities.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master’s Degree holder in Business Administration, Agro- Economics or any other related field with at least 10 years’ experience working at senior level in a leading local or financial Agribusiness institution.
Good leadership skills- demanding in their expectations of self and own dedicated specialist teams that are geographically spread across the country.
Resilient to unpredictable set -backs, takes ownership within peer group and sustains value- add activity for the department.
Demonstrates a real sense of aspiration, collaborating well with senior Management teams.
Proactively builds a network of local and international Agribusiness contacts and leverages on a deep understanding of the Agriculture economy of Tanzania to advance the strategy of the bank.
Good communication skills at various Agribusiness stake holder levels.
